The differences of titanium plate between the cold rolling and the hot rolling
Processing temperature: the cold rolling is done at room temperature, while hot rolling is done above the recrystallization temperature of titanium, and this temperature is higher for titanium and its alloys usually.
The surface quality and accuracy. Usually the surface quality of cold- rolled titanium plate is better, with higher gloss and smoothness. Cold rolling also allows for higher dimensional accuracy and thickness uniformity.
The performance differences: cold- rolled titanium plates are usually harder and stronger, but at the same time, resilience may decrease. Hot-rolled titanium plates may have better ductility and toughness.
Applications: Due to its surface quality and precision advantages, cold-rolled titanium plates are often used in fields that require high requirements for these characteristics, such as aerospace, medical equipment etc. Hot-rolled titanium plate is more used in construction, chemical containers and other fields.
Process of production: During the hot rolling process. the titanium plate will undergo high temperature heating and multiple passes, which may lead to the formation of oxide scale on the surface, which requires subsequent pickling treatment. Cold rolling avoids this problem, but may require subsequent annealing to eliminate work hardening.
In summary, there are significant differences between cold-rolled and hot-rolled titanium plates in terms of processing temperature, surface quality, performance, application field, production process and finished product characteristics. The choice of processing method depends on the specific application needs and performance requirements.
